A tandem is a type of bike with two seats (or more) arranged fore to aft, allowing multiple people to ride a bike at the same time. When you're just the two of you going for a bike ride and you want to have a lot of fun, hiring a tandem might be just for you. Electric tandems exist as well. The front rider has the responsibility for the control and balance, so choose wisely who sits where on the tandem. On most tandems both people have to pedal together, so if you want a tandem which has independent pedalling, you need to check upfront whether the bike hire shop offers this. Bike hire shops might have limited availability for tandem hire, so it's a good idea to book in advance if you want to hire a tandem. Probably you will have to pay a deposit when hiring a tandem, which will be refunded if you return the tandem in good condition. Make sure to ask a helmet and a puncture kit for your trip.
